Pillars of Stewardship

A single pathway to stewardship does not exist. Each faith community must discover their own way to stewardship. That is the reason the Stewardship Team at St. Margaret Mary has devoted months to reading and studying what other faith communities have done.
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Wichita, Kansas, describes four ‘pillars’ supporting stewardship, the way pillars support a building shown in our illustration. One dictionary definition of support is ‘to promote the interest or cause of’. In this case, the four pillars support the interest or cause of stewardship. It is not stewardship itself. It is the support that will assist us on our stewardship journey. It is for the stewardship journey what bottled water, knapsack and walking stick are for the hiker: support to make the journey successful.

The four pillars are: Hospitality, Prayer, Formation, and Service. Some of these activities are the same as announced for the three-year Diocese of Rochester Spiritual Renewal, Spirit Alive!
We are beginning with ‘Hospitality’ as an activity and aspect of Stewardship that most directly involves everyone in our faith community. The Stewardship Team hopes to eventually establish activities for all four ‘pillars’ supporting stewardship in our parish.
